Sometimes you encounter situations so awful that you can't help but smile. It's like your brain tries to understand the sheer extent of unadulterated absurdity and just resigns itself to fate, opting for laughter as a coping strategy.
But then, you suddenly become aware that it's not really hilarious. It's just plain bad. And the laughter you were experiencing morphs into a groan.
After all is said and done, you are left with a sense of confusion. You wonder about the purpose of it all. Was this intended to be funny?
Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?
A Disaster of Epic Proportions
The tsunami struck suddenly, consuming entire villages in its wake. Buildings collapsed like house of cards, and the chaos that followed was deafening. Dreadful Day Ever
It all started with a terrible case of morning hair. I couldn't do it to look right. As I was running out the door, I trippedover and spilled all over myself. To make matters worse, I was extremely late for school.
I sweating. My {boss|teacher|was absolutely furious. I managed to explain, but it was pointless.
The rest of the day was absolutely horrendous. Everything. I stay awake.
By the time I got home, I was physically and emotionally wiped out. This day, this terrible day will be forever remembered as an epic fail.

It all started out terribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then things went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to throw your hands up.
